Eatin' good in the neighborhood

One of greatest benefits of living in northeast Massachusetts is the abundance of small farms that are either certified organic or practice organic and sustainable farming methods. What’s more, many of them get together every Sunday from June to December at The Tannery Marketplace to share their bounty at the Newburyport Farmer’s Market.

All of us at New Media were very grateful for the market and ate some of the best produce we’ve ever had this summer. We really wanted to spread the word about the farmer’s market so we created this video with the help of our good friends Doc Zig and Benny Z who provided the music.

We would like to thank David Hall and the Tannery for hosting such a vital and prosperous community event!

A clean feeling

We recently got together with Boston-based soap company, LEAP Organics, to shoot a brand introduction video for their website. We spent a day in the city and a day in the country to capture the essence of this awesome company. They are a New England company that is setting the bar for companies across the planet in how to create sustainablity from their products, to their packaging, to their corporate philosophy.

What’s even cooler for New Media was hearing that LEAP is working with the Herb Farmacy of Salisbury, MA to source some of their organic lavender and mint. Rock on!

Establishing leadership through video

Last week we wrapped up a great project for one of our favorite clients, The Institution For Savings in Newburyport, MA. The program provides a platform for the bank’s new president, Mike Jones, to welcome visitors to the Institution’s website. It also provides a further introduction for Mike, who recently took the helm of the IFS.

We shot this project in high definition 1920 x 1080 with our fabulous new Canon 7D camera, which brought the best out of the wonderful architectural details of the bank buildings and the surrounding communities that they serve. A great asset of this camera is the array of incredible lenses that are available for it.

This project also made good use of our teleprompter, which enables subjects to look to camera and read extended copy. Mike professed to some initial nervousness but soon got the hang of it and did a great job. The program has already garnered hundreds of views.

This visuals are greatly enhanced by original music by our on-staff music director, Chris.

All in all a good example of using video to showcase a company’s physical and human resources in the best possible light.

Someday every company is going to have a video like this on their website. If you want to get there sooner, rather than later, shoot me an email and we’ll talk about a project for your organization.

A virtuous cycle of community self-support continued on Saturday night as Liz Frame and the Kickers took to the stage of The Firehouse Center For the Performing Arts, in a benefit concert for the Newburyport Education Foundation’s Music Matters program. The Kickers, an up-and-coming group that features striking original songs by leader Liz Frame, had the capacity crowd on its feet and calling for encores. This successful event was helped in a large way by the photography of New Media staffers Ashley Plante and Andrew White. Their photos were used in posters and featured in a Newburyport Daily News cover story about the concert.

All told, the event brought in nearly $4000 for Music Matters, an NEF initiative to kindle a love of playing music in young people.

New Media’s contribution to this success was enhanced by the keyboard support of yours truly, who accompanied Liz and the Kickers on several tunes. I appreciate the invite and the opportunity to contribute.

We love a good story

One aspect of this business of communication that we find particularly satisfying is finding ways to promote services that truly help people. For several years it has been our privilege to provide marketing and communication for Pentucket Medical, the region’s best multi-specialty physicians group. These may be trying times for health care in general, but the good work that medical professionals do every day is a continuing story that we strive to tell. Our campaign for Pentucket Medical in 2010 has focused on the ways that our patients enjoy their health.

Recently we heard from a patient, Beth Bell, who wanted to share her happiness with one of Pentucket’s specialists. Beth’s entire adult life has been a struggle with her endocrine system, but her difficulties took a decided turn for the better this year when she began seeing Pentucket endocrinologist Dr. David Toth. Taking her up on her generous offer to talk about her condition and success with Dr. Toth, we chose to show Beth in the pottery studio where she produces masterful works of art. Thanks to both Beth and Dr. Toth for enabling us to tell this powerful story.

As part of an ongoing series on building community, we are in the process of making a 3 minute video featuring greater Newburyport area restaurants that source locally for some of their ingredients. We are researching right now, so if you’d like to recommend a restaurant please feel free to email us.

And speaking of local food, there is a Community Pot Luck this Sunday September 19th at 6pm behind the Parish Church in Newbury. Bring a local food dish and a mess kit (aiming for zero waste!).

We look forward to learning more about the people who are making a difference in our community and sharing it with you!

Growing Gains....

Our excitement at New Media is growing as our new headquarters takes shape! We stopped by last week and snapped a few photos of the progress made on the new space. The pictures below include our 1000-square- foot office space, and our 1000-square-foot production studio. We look forward to growing the business here; both ours and yours! Stay tuned….27 days until move-in!

On the left we have a doorway into a storage room, and just beyond that we have a walk-in elevator.

One of our editing bays will be built against the back left wall.

New Media On The Move

We are thrilled that in October we will be moving to a fabulous new office/production space in the RiverWalk complex in Lawrence at 360 Merrimack Street, just off Route 495 at Exit 44. Our new digs will include an integrated video and audio editing suite, business offices and a nearly 1000 square-foot production studio.

Our new location will enable us to offer production services and/or use of the space by outside producers, at a reasonable hourly rate.

Watch this space for news on an open house, once we are settled in.
